Create your own morning routine

Perhaps you have already heard about morning routines and would like to develop your own one. A routine that will give you a fantastic start to the day.
I love my morning routine because I know it gets me in the mood for a good day. It also gives me this feeling of certainty. No matter where I am in the world, my morning always starts the same way and that helps me to not feel overwhelmed.
Everyone can benefit from a morning routine. Even those who would not call themselves morning people at all.
The way you start your day determines how you will spend the rest of your day. If you are already full of joy and awareness in the morning, this will continue throughout your day. A routine allows you to start the day with a sense of fulfillment and purpose.
In addition, a morning routine brings many benefits such as increased energy levels, reduced stress, better productivity, increased happiness, etc.
Create your own morning routine
What makes a good morning routine?
Let me say it right at the beginning: There is no such thing as the perfect morning routine.
There is not this one routine that fits everyone and brings everyone the desired success. Your morning routine depends on yourself.
A good morning routine is a routine that works for you. It brings you closer to your goals and makes you feel good.
What feels really good to someone else might not bring you any joy at all. We are all unique and should respect our individuality. That is why it is important to listen to your own needs and ask yourself what would make YOU feel good in the morning.
Take a look at your current routine and ask yourself if what you are doing every morning is really good for you or if it is just a habit.
For example, my morning used to look like this
- Hit the snooze button 5 times
- Get up and go to the bathroom
- Breakfast
- Getting ready for work/school
- Packing my things stressed out
- Running to the bus station
Sounds amazing, right? You can imagine how my mood was all day long after I started the morning in such a hurry.
How did I change that?
I wrote a whole blog post about how I became an early riser. And that has changed everything for me.
At some point I realized how beautiful mornings are and how much I love them. I am now looking forward to getting up in the morning and to start my morning routine, because it brings me so much joy.
And this is what I would like for you too. That you develop a routine that allows you to start the day full of energy and in a good mood so that you can use the day to get closer to your dreams.
So how do you create your own morning routine now?
How extensive your routine is is up to you. Maybe you just don’t have time to take an extra hour in the morning, or maybe (and that is what I would recommend to you) you decide to make that time.
When I was still working in an office, I got up every morning between 5:00 and 5:30 because I made it a priority to take this time for myself.
The most important thing is that your routine fits YOU. To your lifestyle and your goals. To help you develope your own morning routine I have created a worksheet for you.
This is what my morning routine looks like now:
My routine slightly changes depending on where I am in the world. But in its core, it remains the same. When I am in Switzerland, for example, I always go for a morning walk in nature. But when I am in Costa Rica I go surfing instead. Still both are a form of movement and allow me to connect with nature.
- Waking up without alarm
- Hydrate my body
- Gratitude practice
- Meditate
- Intention setting
- Movement (walking & listening to podcasts, yoga, surfing, …)
- Coffee and journaling
- Getting ready for the day
- Breakfast
And when I have time, I like to read a little bit. That’s how I currently start my day and make sure I’m setting myself up for a productive day.
So this is the morning routine that makes ME happy!
I’m not telling you to copy this exact routine. As I have already mentioned, a good morning routine depends on YOUR well-being. If reading in the morning is not something you enjoy, then don’t do it! Your morning routine should work for you and your goals and help you to get closer to your dream life every day.
